Wildlife Sanctuaries in India has gained international attention as it has the second largest bio diversity base in the world. Let us first explore Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary located in the Little Rann of Kutch in the Gujarat state of India. It is spread over 4954 sq. km, it is the largest wildlife sanctuary in India. This sanctuary is the only place in the world where the endangered wild ass sub-species known as Indian Wild Ass (Khur) (Equus hemionus khur) belonging to Asiatic Wild Ass species Onager (Equus hemionus) can be spotted here in this little Rann of Kutch sanctuary.

 

This sanctuary also boasts of 29 species of reptiles namely 2 species of turtles, 14 species of lizards, 12 snakes and 1 crocodile; 93 species of invertebrates - 25 species of zooplanktons, 1 species of annelid, 4 crustaceans, 24 insects, 12 molluscs and 27 spiders; 9 mammalian orders with 33 species/subspecies which include the world’s last population of the Khur sub-species of the wild ass; 4 species of amphibians; and Metapenaeus kutchensis, type of prawn; and is home to nearly 75,000 bird nests and so on. Gangotri National Park is also one of the most beautiful national parks one has to visit. Gangotri National Park is located in Uttarkashi District Uttarakhand, India. This national park is spread in an area of about 2,390 sq km. Gangotri National Park provides majestic beauty of coniferous forests and grandeur of glacial world combined with lush green meadows. The most suitable time to explore this national park is in the months of April to October.

 

As for the wildlife habitat in the park is, there are 15 species of mammals and 150 species of birds. This includes some of the rare and amazing charismatic species like blue sheep or bharal (Pseudois nayaur), Himalayan snowcock (Tetraogallus himalayensis), snow leopard (Uncia uncia), brown bear (Ursus arctos), musk deer (Moschus chrysogaster), black bear (Selenarctos thibetanus), Himalayan tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus), Himalayan monal (Lophophorus impejanus), and Koklass (Pucrasia macrolopha). This Gangotri national park is home to snow leopard, ibex, tahr, Himalayan barbet, serow, pheasants, partridges and doves and pigeons and so on.
